World Architecture Festival 2017
The World Architecture Festival announced the shortlist for the prize for the year 2017, with 434 projects from small family homes to schools, stations, museums, large infrastructure and landscape projects. The world’s largest architectural award program, WAF Awards this year took part more than ever before, with a total of 924 applications received from projects located in 68 countries around the world.
Studio Gang’s „Hive“ opens in the National Buildings Museum
Hive, the installation of Summer Gang, Studio Gang 2017, was released to the public at the National Museum of Buildings in Washington, built of 2,551 silver-magenta glued paper tubes, Hive invites visitors to explore their senses in a series of dome-shaped formations of the Chamber, each in size Reflects a unique sound signature.
Presentation of Apple Store in Foster + Partners Transformation of the historic Carnegie Library of DC
Plans for Apple’s next flagship store, located in the historic Carnegie Library on Vernon Square in Washington, DC, was approved by the Regional Committee for Historical Preservation Conservation (HPRB).
The project includes the renovation of the interior and exterior of the Library of the Beauk Arts Library, covering 63,000 square meters, built in 1903 and added to the National Register of Historical Cities in 1969. The plan will allow the library to be shared by Apple and the existing tenant of the building, The Historical Societies of Washington. The two-storey Apple Store will be located on the first floor and the level of the basement of the building, and will be designed by Foster + Partners, continuing cooperation with the technological giant.
